WANA (Jun 09) – Iran’s Foreign Minister has warned against any potential U.S. miscalculation in the Persian Gulf, stressing that while Iran prefers diplomacy, it is fully capable of responding to threats if necessary.

 

Speaking on Tuesday evening, June 9, Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz is not located in international waters but is jointly shared by Iran and Oman. He also emphasized that the strategic waterway lies thousands of miles away from the United States and that Iran’s maritime borders are clearly defined and free of any ambiguity.

 

Referring to Iran’s military readiness, Araghchi said that the country’s armed forces remain on constant alert and are prepared to respond to any violation of Iran’s airspace, territorial waters, or land borders.

His remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed in a post on Truth Social that an advanced Apache helicopter conducting a patrol mission over the Strait of Hormuz had been targeted by Iranian forces. Trump stated that the two pilots involved were unharmed but added that the United States may be required to respond to the incident.

 

Responding to those claims, Iran’s top diplomat noted that foreign forces operating near Iranian territory are always exposed to risks, whether due to their own human error, unforeseen incidents, or the possibility of becoming caught in an exchange of fire.

 

In a post on X, Araghchi further argued that the most effective way to reduce such risks is for foreign military forces to leave the region as soon as possible. He added that the Persian Gulf region has never welcomed the presence of hostile forces.

 

Concluding his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister reiterated Tehran’s position, saying that Iran prefers the language of diplomacy. However, he stressed that, as the country’s armed forces have repeatedly demonstrated, Iran is also well versed in speaking other languages when circumstances require it.
