WANA (Jan 21) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has warned that any new attack against Iran would be met with a firm and decisive response, stressing that hostile U.S. policies toward Tehran — ranging from economic sanctions to military threats — have failed to achieve their objectives.

In an article published in The Wall Street Journal, Araghchi addressed Iran’s recent domestic developments, stating that initially peaceful protests were hijacked after several days by domestic and foreign terrorist elements, leading to violent unrest. He explained that the temporary shutdown of internet services was a necessary measure to contain the violence, adding that communications are now gradually being restored.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that during the unrest, police forces, civilians, and critical infrastructure — including hospitals and public facilities — were targeted. According to him, stability has since returned and normal life has resumed across the country.

Araghchi also referred to what he described as interference by the previous U.S. administration in Iran’s internal affairs, arguing that threats issued by Donald Trump were aimed at dragging the United States into another conflict in line with Israeli interests, resulting in heightened tensions and bloodshed. He cited remarks by former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo regarding Mossad influence as an example of this approach.

Emphasizing that Iran has consistently prioritized peace over war, Araghchi said Tehran remains ready to engage in a fair and balanced agreement based on mutual respect. However, he underscored that Iran will respond decisively to any aggression, adding that a fundamental shift in Washington’s approach — toward respectful and reciprocal engagement — is essential for reducing tensions and ensuring regional stability.
