Araghchi Warns on European Troika’s Pressure Against Iran
WANA (Sep 23) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during a meeting with his Finnish counterpart Elina Valtonen on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly, reiterated Iran’s responsible stance on its nuclear program and warned against any attempt by the three European countries to misuse the UN Security Council as a tool to exert pressure on Tehran.
In the Tuesday morning meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations between Iran and Finland, as well as regional and international developments, with a focus on global peace and security.
Highlighting the two-year anniversary of what he described as a genocide in Gaza, Araghchi condemned the ongoing violations of the UN Charter and human rights by the Israeli regime. He stressed the legal and moral responsibility of all nations to stop the genocide and confront Israel’s continuous threats to international peace and stability.
Regarding the nuclear issue, Araghchi warned of the consequences if the E3 (France, Germany, and the UK) attempted to exploit the Security Council for political pressure. He emphasised Iran’s commitment to a responsible approach and cautioned against the politicisation of international mechanisms.
Prior to this meeting, Araghchi also held talks with foreign ministers from Austria, Poland, Sweden, Sudan, Oman, Egypt, as well as with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
