Araghchi’s Agreement with Grossi: Against National Interests, a Prelude to Renewed Attacks on Iran
WANA (Sep 10) – Amirhossein Sabati, a member of Iran’s parliament and a vocal critic of the recent agreement between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), wrote a note that was circulated on social media, in which he described the deal as “against national interests” and warned of its security implications.

The full text of his note is as follows:
Araghchi’s Agreement with Grossi: Against National Interests, a Prelude to Renewed Attacks on Iran
1. It is against national interests because after Israel’s attack on Iran, it was the IAEA that sought to obtain updated information on Iran’s nuclear status. The renewed presence of the Agency’s inspectors—whom he describes as spies—serves the Agency’s interests but brings no benefit to Iran.
2. This passive and weak agreement, once implemented and once it equips the IAEA with full details of Iran’s nuclear facilities, will pave the way for a new round of military strikes on the country. Indeed, during the first attack, it was the IAEA that had collected information for years on Iran’s facilities and provided it to Israel and the United States.
3. The deal also constitutes an explicit violation of parliament’s law mandating the suspension of all cooperation with the Agency. Admittedly, the flaw in parliament’s law was that it mentioned the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in its text, which has now been used to bypass the law. Yet, the same legislation makes it clear that verification of parliament’s conditions must occur “after a report by the Atomic Energy Organization and approval by the Supreme National Security Council.” Otherwise, those responsible for such an agreement are deemed “guilty.”
Therefore, I will pursue this matter through parliament’s Article 90 Commission and will inform the people of the results.
Finally, a word to Mr. Larijani, Secretary of the SNSC: we are awaiting the fulfillment of your promise to hold Grossi accountable. If you made that statement in the middle of war only to calm public opinion and gain likes on social media, then so be it. But if you truly stand by your word—Bismillah! Parliament will support you.

On Tuesday, September 9 (18 Shahrivar), an agreement was reached in Cairo between Iran and the IAEA, attended by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, and IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi. According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the deal—resulting from three rounds of intensive negotiations—establishes a new framework for continued safeguards cooperation while also addressing Iran’s security concerns following U.S. and Israeli strikes on its nuclear facilities.
Araghchi stressed that the memorandum had been drafted in line with parliament’s legislation and the considerations of the SNSC, ensuring cooperation with the Agency under a new framework, provided that no hostile actions such as the activation of the snapback mechanism are undertaken against Iran.
