WANA (May 14) – Speaking at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, Abbas Araghchi responded to remarks by the representative of the United Arab Emirates by describing the country as an “active partner in the aggression” against Iran. He said Abu Dhabi’s alliance with Israel and the United States had not only failed to provide security for the UAE, but had also increased tensions across the region.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that he had deliberately avoided mentioning the UAE by name in his official speech in order to preserve unity, but claimed that Abu Dhabi had played a direct role in the recent attacks against Iran. According to Araghchi, the UAE initially refused to condemn the attacks and later participated by providing military bases, airspace access, and intelligence facilities to the United States and Israel.

Referring to the deaths of more than 170 schoolchildren in an attack on a school during the first day of the conflict, he said the UAE not only failed to condemn the strike, but “chose to stand alongside the Israelis and the Americans.”

Addressing the Emirati official present at the meeting, Araghchi said, “Even your alliance with the Israelis failed to protect you,” adding that the presence of American troops and military bases on Emirati soil had also failed to guarantee the country’s security. He called on UAE officials to reconsider their policy toward Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to the neighboring relationship between Tehran and Abu Dhabi, saying the two countries are ultimately bound to live alongside one another and therefore need “peaceful relations and mutual understanding.” At the same time, he stressed that Iran had not remained silent in the face of the attacks and had targeted only American military bases and facilities located in the UAE.

In another part of his remarks, Araghchi claimed there was substantial evidence showing that Emirati territory had been used for attacks against Iran. He also referred to reports about a wartime visit by Benjamin Netanyahu to Abu Dhabi, saying the available information suggested that the UAE had participated in the attacks and “may even have acted directly against Iran.”

At the conclusion of his speech, the Iranian foreign minister urged BRICS members to condemn what he described as “the aggression of the United States, Israel, and the UAE against Iran.” In his main address to the BRICS meeting, he also emphasized that “there is no military solution” to dealing with Iran, adding that Tehran would emerge “more united and stronger” under pressure and threats.

The BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting is being held on Thursday and Friday under India’s presidency in New Delhi, with regional stability, multilateral cooperation, and economic resilience listed as its main themes.
