WANA (Aug 11) – In a phone conversation, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned against possible U.S. attempts to exploit the recently agreed Caucasus transit corridor project for hegemonic purposes under the guise of economic investment and peacebuilding.

Referring to the agreement on implementing the corridor with U.S. participation, Pezeshkian stressed the need to preserve Armenia’s sovereignty in the process and to ensure that no military or security forces are involved under the project’s framework.

He cautioned that special vigilance is needed regarding potential American actions that may pursue dominance in the South Caucasus while claiming to promote peace. “It must be ensured that this route will truly serve as a path to peace and development, not a tool for advancing the hegemonic ambitions of foreign powers,” he said.

Earlier today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with President Pezeshkian, providing a detailed report on the recent peace memorandum signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan and outlining the dimensions of the Caucasus transit corridor project. He expressed gratitude for Iran’s principled stance and Pezeshkian’s commitment to fostering regional convergence.

Pashinyan stressed that Iran’s emphasis on safeguarding Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is of high value to Yerevan, adding, “We will not sign any agreement without being certain that the interests, considerations, and sensitivities of our friend and neighbor Iran are fully respected.”

He affirmed that Armenia regards relations with Iran as strategic, and all important decisions will be made through mutual consultation and coordination, with transparency and honesty as the guiding principles.

Pezeshkian described relations between Iran and Armenia as strategic, rooted in good neighborliness and mutual respect for territorial integrity. He said that principled and logical approaches have always formed the solid foundation for strengthening bilateral ties and that any attempt to undermine these historic and deep relations will be firmly rejected by both sides.

The Iranian President reiterated that Iran, as an anchor of peace, stability, and security in the region, welcomes any agreement that strengthens peace, particularly among neighboring countries.

He underscored the importance of maintaining and deepening ties among Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, noting that such relations depend on vigilance, coordination, solidarity, and the avoidance of any foreign interference.

“Iran has always prioritized shared interests in regional relations, especially with its neighbors, and believes this perspective will be recognized as a fundamental priority among neighboring countries,” he said.
