Armenia Security Chief Meets Iran’s Top Security Official
WANA (Aug 30) – The Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council held talks today with the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, who is visiting Tehran, met on Saturday with Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The trip was made at the invitation of Ali Larijani.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, emphasized on Saturday that Tehran firmly opposes any geopolitical changes in the region or actions that could undermine relations between Iran and Armenia.
In his meeting with Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council, Larijani expressed Iran’s satisfaction with the current level of political, economic, security, and defense relations with Yerevan. He underlined Tehran’s commitment to cooperating with its northern neighbor on completing the North-South transport corridor and linking the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

Reiterating Iran’s support for peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Larijani outlined Iran’s vision for regional stability, stressing that Tehran has consistently backed the independence and strength of regional countries as a basis for sustainable security.
For his part, Grigoryan described bilateral relations as “unprecedented” and said his visit aimed to expand cooperation across all dimensions. He also announced Armenia’s readiness to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran in the near future.
Highlighting Yerevan’s stance, Grigoryan reaffirmed five key principles: national sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity, exercise of national jurisdiction, the inviolability of borders, and reciprocity. He assured Tehran that Armenia is prepared to provide necessary guarantees to ensure relations between the two countries remain unaffected, while reiterating Yerevan’s opposition to any regional geopolitical changes.
He further stressed that the agreements reached in the ongoing peace negotiations uphold Armenia’s exclusive control over its security, military, and customs affairs.

Bagheri, Iran’s former acting foreign minister and former deputy foreign minister for political affairs under President Ebrahim Raisi, was recently appointed by Ali Larijani as Deputy for International Affairs at the Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council.
