WANA (Mar 17) – The spokesperson of the Iranian Army emphasized that the country’s primary objective in the ongoing conflict is to establish a level of deterrence that would prevent any future attacks against Iran.

Brigadier General Mohammad Akrami-Nia, in a televised interview, stated that the core dispute between the United States and Iran is not related to the nuclear issue, but rather to Iran’s independence and regional power. According to him, the nuclear file has merely served as a pretext for applying pressure and justifying hostile actions against Iran.

He noted that U.S. regional policies have consistently aimed at ensuring the security and superiority of Israel in West Asia, adding that Washington ultimately seeks to weaken Iran and shift the regional balance of power in favor of Israel. In response to such strategies, he stressed that resistance and strengthening deterrence remain Iran’s only viable options.

The army spokesperson further explained that Iran’s conduct during the current conflict has already enhanced its deterrence capabilities, which could help prevent similar confrontations in the future. He added that the consequences of the war extend beyond Iran, affecting regional dynamics and even the broader international system.

According to Akrami-Nia, the U.S.-led security order in West Asia is gradually collapsing, as regional countries are realizing that reliance on Washington for security has proven ineffective. He suggested that current developments could pave the way for a new regional security framework based on cooperation among local states.

He also criticized Western countries over their human rights claims, calling them inconsistent with their actions, and argued that recent events—especially in the region—have exposed a growing legitimacy crisis within the liberal international order.

In another part of his remarks, the spokesperson addressed the attack on the destroyer “Dena,” reporting that 104 Iranian naval personnel were killed. He stated that the vessel had been returning from a mission when it was targeted, and vowed that Iran would retaliate at a time and place of its choosing.

Concluding his remarks, Akrami-Nia underscored Iran’s determination to respond decisively to threats, noting that a combination of military capabilities and public support forms the foundation of the country’s deterrence strategy and future security.
