Asim Munir Departs Tehran Following High-Level Talks
WANA (May 23) – The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Asim Munir, who arrived in Iran yesterday evening for talks with Iranian officials, departed Tehran this Saturday afternoon.
General Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday evening, May 22, 2026, where he was welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Later that night, he held an extended meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two officials discussed the latest diplomatic efforts and initiatives to prevent further escalation, bring an end to the imposed war by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, and explore ways to strengthen peace, stability, and security in the West Asian region.
On Saturday, the Pakistani army chief held separate meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Later in the afternoon, he met with Foreign Minister Araghchi for the second time during his visit.
Following his final meeting with Araghchi, the senior Pakistani military official visited Tehran’s historic Meydan-e Mashq, accompanied by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, before concluding his trip.
This visit follows a previous trip by the Pakistani Army Chief to Tehran on April 15, during which he also held talks with senior Iranian officials.
