WANA (Aug 12) – Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), stated that the assassination of nuclear scientists must be firmly condemned by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Eslami stressed that Israel is neither a signatory to the NPT nor a member of the Safeguards system, yet it wields influence within the IAEA and exploits this influence to misuse confidential information from member states. Backed by the United States, he said, Israel engages in malicious activities across the region.

Eslami: The Agency Conducted More Than 450 Inspections in 2024

He went on to say that the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists—none of whom had any affiliation with military organizations—was among such crimes, and that these actions by the regime must be firmly condemned by the IAEA.

Eslami noted that during the recent 12-day war, several registered facilities under continuous IAEA monitoring—overseen by 130 inspectors—came under repeated attacks using missiles and various projectiles.

The Vice President added that the Americans had long planned attacks on Iran’s facilities, even though no official body in recent years has issued any report suggesting Iran’s non-compliance or deviation from its Safeguards obligations.

He stressed that a fabricated and false case has been built by the Zionist regime, and its accusations and pretexts are nothing but an attempt to halt Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. “If their claims were true, they would present clear evidence,” he said. “These false statements are merely a cover to block the progress of the Iranian nation.”

The AEOI chief said that such double standards and efforts to keep Iran from entering advanced scientific fields represent the same hegemonic order that spends vast sums to deny the Iranian people access to nuclear and other modern technologies. “This is a concrete manifestation of their identity—the same crimes they are committing today in Palestine,” he added. “By violating the UN Charter, they have proven that the law of the jungle governs the world. But the Iranian nation is not one to yield to bullying.”

Eslami: The Agency Must Avoid Language That Serves the Ill-Intentioned

Pointing to the role of the nuclear industry in improving people’s quality of life, Eslami said that the development of advanced sciences and technologies is vital for Iranian society. “If we fail to invest in this sector, we will lose our young talents and elites,” he warned. “We must act in a lively, dynamic, and intelligent manner in the face of distorted narratives.”

Kamalvandi: The IAEA Relies on Intelligence from Espionage Sources

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the AEOI’s spokesperson and deputy for international, legal, and parliamentary affairs, added that Iran had endured a difficult 12-day period and must remain on full alert until the threat is completely eliminated, learning lessons from what transpired for the future.

Kamalvandi emphasized that because the nuclear industry is deeply rooted, it can never be eradicated. “From now on,” he said, “this is a battle of wills—and whoever loses their spirit has already lost the war.”
