WANA (Jul 10) – Prominent Arab analyst Abdel Bari Atwan wrote in an article that the “lowest point” of U.S. President Donald Trump’s moral conduct was launching the war while Iran was holding the funeral procession for its slain leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

 

Atwan wrote that Trump crossed all moral principles and values on four occasions.

 

First, he said, Trump insulted Iran’s leadership.

 

Second, he ordered the bombing of civilian railway bridges in northern and eastern Iran.

 

Third, U.S. missiles struck areas around the Bushehr nuclear power plant and a nearby military base, which Atwan argued could have caused a radioactive leak.

 

Fourth—and most dangerously, according to Atwan—Trump launched the war while the other party to the ceasefire agreement was conducting the funeral of its slain leader, Ali Khamenei, as tens of millions of people participated in the ceremonies inside and outside Iran.

 

According to Atwan, Trump’s greatest mistake, reflecting what he described as political and military short-sightedness and “boundless stupidity,” was believing that he could violate the agreement while ordering strikes on Iranian targets.

 

He also wrote that Trump believed Qatari and Saudi vessels could pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of U.S. warships and aircraft without obtaining authorization from Iran’s oversight committee.

 

Atwan concluded that Iran’s response was swift, deadly, and humiliating.
