Austrian Envoy Summoned over Nuclear Allegation
WANA (May 30) – On Friday, May 30, 2025, Michaela Pacher, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Austrian Embassy in Tehran (in the absence of the ambassador), was summoned to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The summons came in response to a claim made about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in the annual assessment report of Austria’s intelligence agency.
During the meeting, Alireza Malek Ghadami, Director General for Western Europe at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, strongly rejected the allegation and emphasized its inconsistency with numerous reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program fully complies with the Islamic Republic’s legal and international obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Malek Ghadami described the Austrian intelligence agency’s claim — made without any evidence — as irresponsible and provocative, and called for an official explanation from the Austrian government.
The Austrian Chargé d’Affaires stated that she would convey Iran’s formal protest and request for clarification to her government.
