WANA (Jun 09) – The official committee overseeing the funeral arrangements for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced that the procession and burial will take place after the first ten days of Muharram, dismissing viral social media reports and media speculation regarding immediate dates.

 

In its second official statement, the “Commemoration Committee for the Bloody Ascension of the Martyred Militant Imam, His Eminence Ayatollah-al-Uzma Khamenei,” addressed widespread confusion surrounding the upcoming state funeral for the late Supreme Leader and members of his family who were killed alongside him.

 

“Given the extensive planning required to host a magnificent and dignified farewell, funeral, and burial for the martyred militant Imam… we inform the public that all speculation and rumors circulating in domestic and foreign media regarding the timing and details of the ceremony are entirely invalid,” the statement read.

 

Honoring Muharram Traditions

The committee explained that the decision to delay the state funeral was made out of respect for Ayatollah Khamenei’s lifelong devotion to the traditional mourning rituals of Muharram, which commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (the grandson of Prophet Muhammad).

 

To ensure that millions of Shiite mourners across Iran and the globe can observe the sacred first ten days of the Islamic month (culminating in Ashura) without disruption, the national farewell ceremonies will be put on hold.

 

The delay will also grant relevant state agencies and grassroots volunteer organizations the necessary time to finalize logistical coordination to accommodate the massive influx of mourners expected in the capital.

Officials concluded the briefing by urging the public to disregard unofficial schedules, promising that precise dates, locations, and transportation guidelines will be broadcasted through state media well in advance.
