Baghaei Clarifies Potential Foreign Minister Visit to New York
WANA (May 20) – Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has addressed ongoing speculation regarding a potential upcoming visit by the Foreign Minister to New York, clarifying the diplomatic context behind the invitation.
When asked in an interview whether Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi would travel to New York in the coming days, Baghaei noted that the initiative stemed from China’s rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its agenda to host a high-level session.
“Given China’s rotating presidency of the UN Security Council and Beijing’s plans to hold a special meeting of foreign ministers on topics related to international peace and security, our country’s Foreign Minister has also been invited to attend this session,” Baghaei stated.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson specified that the open UNSC session is scheduled for May 26. However, he emphasized that attendance has not yet been finalized, citing the Foreign Minister’s intensive schedule.
Concluding his remarks, Baghaei issued a cautionary note regarding public information channels, advising observers and media outlets to remain vigilant against hostile disinformation campaigns.
“We must be cautious of enemy plots involving the dissemination of fake news and manipulated images, and refrain from basing analyses on them,” the spokesperson warned.
