WANA (Jun 11) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has fiercely condemned a recent US military strike targeting drinking water reservoirs in Sirik, Hormozgan province, describing the action as the “ultimate moral decline” of American governance.

 

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Baghaei shared a clipping from The New York Times, which characterized Tuesday night’s US military assault on the civilian water infrastructure as a deliberate act and a war crime.

 

Quoting French philosopher Simone Weil on the internal political drivers of warfare, Baghaei argued that the targeted destruction of essential civilian infrastructure unmasks the reality of American power.

 

“From this perspective, targeting the drinking-water tanks in Sirik, southern Iran, strips the mask from the true nature of the power,” Baghaei wrote.

 

“A power that has spent decades cloaking itself in the language of ‘human rights’, ‘international order’, and ‘moral responsibility’ reveals its essence when it deliberately destroys the drinking water of Iranians. In that moment, it does not merely attack a target — it strikes at the very foundation of the noble narrative it has built about itself.”

 

The spokesperson further asserted that the strike signals a broader systemic decay, stating that empires fall when they can no longer bridge the gap between their proclaimed virtues and their actual deeds.

 

“The moment of decline is not the collapse of city walls; it is the collapse of the credibility of words that have long concealed reality,” Baghaei added, concluding his statement with a quote from poet T.S. Eliot to describe the current state of US foreign policy: “Shape without form, shade without colour, paralysed force, gesture without motion.”

 

The strike on the Sirik water facilities has intensified regional tensions, drawing sharp domestic and international criticism over the targeting of critical civilian survival infrastructure.
