Baghaei Criticizes German Chancellor Over Remarks on Iran
WANA (Sep 16) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has criticized the German chancellor over remarks concerning Iran’s war, nuclear program and regional allies, accusing Berlin of adopting a distorted narrative toward Tehran.
In a post on X, Baghaei said the German chancellor’s characterization of Iran’s “war,” “military nuclear program” and “proxies” was knowingly distorted.
Baghaei argued that it was the United States and Israel, rather than Iran, that had launched what he described as a war of aggression, and criticized Germany for failing to show what he called the minimum moral courage required to condemn it.
He also rejected the characterization of groups described by Berlin as Iranian “proxies,” saying they were independent actors with their own causes and calculations and that they were fighting for what he described as self-determination, freedom and dignity against occupation, aggression and subjugation.
Baghaei further denied that Iran had a military nuclear program, saying repeated allegations to that effect were based on what he described as fabricated claims originating from Israel. He warned that the region should not have to bear the consequences of what he called Germany’s “guilt complex” or its policy of appeasement toward bullies.
Baghaei concluded by arguing that Germany could not support what he described as “dirty work” while simultaneously presenting itself as a champion of peace and a moral authority.
