Baghaei: Iran Determined to Preserve Peaceful Nuclear Energy
WANA (Jun 26) – Iran remains firmly committed to preserving its right to peaceful nuclear energy, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson announced, emphasizing the country’s position under international law and questioning recent U.S. actions that contradict diplomatic claims.
“Under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and specifically Article 4, Iran has the full legal right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Iran is determined to uphold this right under all circumstances,” said the spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei.
Baghaei criticized what he described as “deep contradictions” within the U.S. bureaucracy, pointing to recent developments that he claimed undermined diplomatic efforts.
“While they were speaking about diplomacy, just two days before our scheduled meeting in Muscat, they gave Israel the green light to attack Iran,” he said. “So how can there be any trust left? They speak one way and act another. Now, they must be held accountable for aggression.”
Regarding recent statements from U.S. officials about diplomacy and negotiations, Baghai added: “At this point, I don’t think there’s anything meaningful to say about their conflicting comments. We need to be sure whether they are truly serious when they speak about diplomacy, or whether this is just another tactic to create more problems for the region and for my country.”
