Baghaei: Iran Ignores Deadlines, Still Reviewing U.S. Proposal
WANA (May 08) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that its response to a proposed U.S. plan remains under review, while simultaneously condemning recent American military aggression near the Strait of Hormuz as a “gross violation” of international law.
During a press briefing, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei addressed last night’s military actions by the U.S. Army against two Iranian oil tankers near the Port of Jask and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as strikes on several coastal locations.
Violation of Ceasefire
Baghaei characterized the attacks as a blatant breach of the existing ceasefire and international legal frameworks.
“This is not the first time the Americans have violated the ceasefire,” Baghaei noted. “The nation’s defenders provided a decisive response to this aggression.”
He emphasized that while the region is technically under a “nominal ceasefire,” Iran’s armed forces remain on full alert. “Our forces are monitoring the situation with precision and will respond to any acts of mischief with absolute firmness,” he added.
Review of the U.S. Proposal
When questioned about Iran’s stance on the recently proposed U.S. plan, the spokesperson clarified that the document is still being analyzed by Iranian officials.
“This matter is still under review. We will announce the outcome once a conclusion has been reached,” Baghaei stated.
Rejection of U.S. Deadlines
Regarding reports that Washington has set a specific deadline for Iran to respond to the proposal, Baghaei dismissed the pressure tactics.
“As I mentioned, we are conducting our own assessment. We are doing our work and pay no mind to such deadlines,” the spokesperson concluded.
