Baghaei: It’s All About Oil
WANA (Mar 09) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson reacted to remarks by a U.S. senator by sharing a video of his comments, saying they reveal what he described as the “real motivations behind some U.S. policies toward Iran,” and emphasising that the main issue is energy resources.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday (March 9) reposted part of a statement by U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham in a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In the video, Graham says that Iran and Venezuela together hold about 31 percent of the world’s oil reserves and that the United States should “have a partnership” in those resources.
Reacting to the remarks, Baghaei wrote: “Very rare moment of honestly: it’s all about OIL.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson described the comments as an indication of what he called an instrumental view held by some U.S. politicians toward energy resources in independent countries.
