WANA (May 17) – Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has strongly rejected recent rhetoric from U.S. officials regarding the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Washington of deploying a “grand lie” to justify its military actions.

Writing on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in response to U.S. claims that Iran is disrupting global energy markets, Baghaei asserted that Washington is attempting to mask its own destabilizing behavior.

The full text of his statement reads as follows:

“The next grand lie being rolled out to justify their illegal ‘war of choice’ is the claim that they are ‘preserving peace and stability in global energy markets.’

In reality, though, it was the reckless warmongering of the U.S. and Israeli regimes that shattered promising diplomatic processes and, through an unprovoked military aggression against Iran, deliberately injected insecurity into vital energy routes — only then to accuse Iran of destabilization, in order to put into practice Goebbels’ infamous dictum: ‘Accuse others of what you yourself are doing.’

This is their familiar, cynical playbook: manufacture crisis and war, then escalate further under the noble banner of ‘restoring stability’ and ‘defending peace.’

‘They create a desolation and call it peace.’
