Baghaei: US Denial of Strike on Wedding Ceremony in Sirik Is a “Blatant Lie”
WANA (Sep 02) – Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, has rejected claims by Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the US Central Command (CENTCOM), regarding the reported strike on a wedding ceremony in Sirik, dismissing the US assertion that its military does not target civilians as a “blatant lie.”
Hawkins had claimed, in response to reports about the strike on the wedding ceremony in Sirik, that the US military does not target civilians. Baghaei, in a post on X, challenged the claim by pointing to the record of US military operations.
He cited several US attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq, including Kakrak in 2002, Mukaradeeb in 2004, and Deh Bala and Wech Baghtu in 2008, saying that these attacks resulted in the deaths of large numbers of civilians, including women and children.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson also pointed to the portrayal in the US television series *Homeland* of a US drone strike on a wedding ceremony in Pakistan. According to Baghaei, the episode depicted an attack in which around 40 civilians were killed.
Baghaei further criticized CENTCOM’s position, arguing that even US media productions have portrayed a history of such attacks, making the claim by the CENTCOM spokesperson difficult to accept.
He concluded by stressing that the Sirik incident is not a fabricated narrative or a media story, and that its victims were real civilians who lost their lives in the attack.
