Baghaei: US Started the War but Expects the World to Pay the Price
WANA (Sep 07) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman criticized the US narrative over the cause of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, saying Washington’s military actions were the main factor behind disruptions to international commercial shipping and rising energy costs.
In a post on X, Esmaeil Baghaei said the Strait of Hormuz had remained fully open until the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.
He said Washington had imposed an “illegal and brutal” war on the region, disrupting normal maritime traffic. As a result, he said, oil tankers had been brought to a standstill, trade had been disrupted and energy prices had risen.
Baghaei said the United States was now attempting to portray Iran as responsible for the insecurity and disruptions that, in his view, had been caused by Washington itself, while seeking to make the international community bear the heavy costs of its actions.
The Iranian spokesman said Washington was attempting to reframe the war it had started as a cost imposed on the world by Iran’s conduct.
“America started the war, but expects the entire world to pay the price while portraying Iran as responsible for the chaos it itself created,” Baghaei said, describing the narrative as “utterly meaningless and baseless.”
