WANA (Apr 06) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, said in response to Donald Trump’s threats to attack Iran’s power plants and electricity grid that Iran’s armed forces have made it clear: if Iranian infrastructure is targeted, Iran will respond in kind. He stated that Iran’s military will target any similar infrastructure belonging to the United States or involved in aggression against Iran.

Baghaei made these remarks in an interview with Reuters.

A reporter noted that Donald Trump continues to issue threats, including a recent post in which he warned of attacking Iran’s power plants and bridges and used highly aggressive and insulting language about “dragging Iran into hell.” The reporter asked Baghaei for his assessment of such threats and rhetoric.

The spokesperson replied: “First, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau said, insults are the tools of those in the wrong. Second, the United States government has threatened Iran for the past 48 years. The Iranian people have shown maximum resilience and determination to stay on their rightful path—a path of defending their right to self-determination, sovereignty, and dignity. Third, these threats reflect a criminal mindset. Such statements are an open incitement to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity. One could even argue they amount to genocide, because targeting a country’s vital infrastructure, including its energy sector, puts the entire population at risk. This is nothing short of a war crime and a crime against humanity.”

He continued: “However, it appears this administration pays little regard to law, logic, or basic moral principles. As far as Iran is concerned, we are determined to defend our national security and sovereignty with full force. Not only in recent days, but over nearly five decades, Iranians have shown they are a patriotic people ready to confront their enemies.”

Baghaei added: “Everyone in Iran and around the world knows this is an unjust war. It is a war of choice by the United States government, imposed not only on Iran but also on the American people, the region, and the international community. As we have demonstrated, we will respond with full force. This is our homeland. This is about the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a nation proud of its civilization and capable of defeating its enemies.”

The interviewer asked: “If these attacks are actually carried out, what targets do you think they will strike, and how strong will Iran’s response be?”

Baghaei responded: “They have said they will target all of Iran’s power plants and electricity grid. Iran’s response will be reciprocal. Our armed forces have clearly stated that if Iran’s infrastructure is targeted, we will respond in the same manner.”

He added: “Our armed forces will target any similar infrastructure belonging to the United States or involved in aggression against Iran. This is not a matter of choice or preference—it is part of our defensive measures against an unlawful act.”

The interviewer then said: “Iran reportedly succeeded last night in targeting and destroying several U.S. aircraft and fighter jets. What message does this capability send to the world?”

Baghaei replied: “As they say, actions speak louder than words. It is clear to everyone that Iranians are defending their homeland with full intensity. Not only the armed forces, but ordinary people—including the Lur community—have shown that when it comes to defending the country, there is no difference among ethnic groups. Everyone stands united against enemies and works to neutralize threats.”

The interviewer asked whether this capability carries a specific military message.

The senior diplomat said: “I believe everyone has learned their lesson from this courageous act of defense. For over a month, there was an attempt to portray Iran’s defensive capability as weakened, but our armed forces showed that the enemy has once again made a miscalculation.”

Finally, the interviewer asked: “If you could send a message to the American people today, what would it be?”

Baghaei said: “It seems the American people understand that this is not their war. It is a war of choice by the U.S. government—perhaps imposed on behalf of a genocidal regime in the region.”

He added: “Public demonstrations across American cities and states show that people do not support this aggressive war. Not only in our region but globally, including in the United States itself, this war is widely seen as illegal. It is a war imposed on a цивилизованный nation based on lies—specifically the false claim that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, which has never been true.”

He continued: “There was also a false claim of an imminent threat from Iran against the American people, which is completely untrue. They know such a threat has never existed.”

The spokesperson added: “Another false claim was that their goal was to help the Iranian people. Yes—help through death and destruction. In one attack, described as an ‘incident’ but in reality a deliberate strike, an elementary school in the city of Minab was targeted. On the same day, a sports hall in Lamerd, Fars province, was also hit, killing 21 people. In less than an hour, more than 200 innocent boys and girls were massacred.”

Baghaei concluded: “This is the conduct of the United States government, and in my view, these war crimes are being recorded in the name of the American people—while in reality, the American people do not support such actions and oppose them.”

He said: “The American people should know that what their government is doing in West Asia against Iran is a grave injustice—an unjust and aggressive war that will not only cause human casualties but also impose heavy economic consequences on them. It is therefore up to the American people to hold their government accountable for these actions and crimes carried out in their name.”
