Baghaei’s Statement on the Campaign of Lies and Deception Against the Iranian Nation
WANA (Feb 25) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, on Wednesday dismissed recent statements by U.S. and Israeli officials as part of what he described as a coordinated campaign of falsehoods targeting Iran. He said allegations concerning Tehran’s nuclear program, its missile capabilities, and the reported death toll of past domestic unrest amount to “a repetition of big lies.”
Baghaei, speaking in his capacity as the official voice of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, argued that what he called “professional liars” attempt to construct an “illusory truth” through constant repetition of claims. In a post on X, he compared the tactic to a propaganda principle associated with Joseph Goebbels, the information minister of Nazi Germany and close associate of Adolf Hitler: “Repeat a lie often enough and it will appear to be the truth.”
According to Baghaei, this method is now being used “systematically” by the U.S. government and what he described as “warmongers around it, particularly the genocidal Israeli regime,” to advance what he called a malicious disinformation campaign against the Iranian people.
His remarks followed renewed claims by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, who asserted early Wednesday that Iran is working on ballistic missiles capable of reaching American territory. Trump also warned that Washington has cautioned Tehran against any future effort to revive a nuclear weapons program. He reiterated that U.S. policy for decades has centered on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while noting that negotiations with Tehran are ongoing and that Iran “wants to make a deal.”
Iranian officials have consistently maintained that the country’s nuclear activities are exclusively peaceful and conducted under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. They also frame Iran’s missile development as part of a defensive doctrine aimed at regional deterrence.
The issue of casualties during past domestic unrest was also referenced in recent statements from Washington. Baghaei described such figures as part of the same pattern of misinformation, insisting that “no one should be misled by these narratives.”
