WANA (Jun 15) – Ali Bahreini, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva, stated that despite unilateral sanctions, coercive measures, and a naval blockade, the Iranian people have demonstrated remarkable resilience. He emphasized that such a nation will never trade its dignity, independence, beliefs, or right to self-determination.

 

On the first day of the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, Bahreini highlighted various human rights dimensions of the aggressions committed by the United States and the Israeli regime against the country.

 

He stressed that Saturday marked a day to honor the commendable resistance of the Iranian people and armed forces against these aggressions.

 

During the session, marking the first anniversary of the June 13, 2025, aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Iranian Ambassador paid tribute to the memory of thousands of innocent victims of the 12-Day War, as well as the 4,500 victims of the Ramadan War against Iran.

 

“The high number of martyrs and victims of these aggressions, and the destruction left in the wake of these attacks, serve as a vital reminder of the imperative to adhere to international law, strengthen the principle of accountability, and respect the sanctity of human life against the most extreme and hegemonic factions,” Bahreini stated.

 

The Iranian representative added: “Over the past year, the Iranian people have lived either under unprecedented direct military attacks or under the constant shadow of threats, intimidation, the potential for aggression, and an extensive naval blockade.

 

Meanwhile, countries that consistently claim to defend human rights have maintained a blatant silence regarding the most fundamental rights of the Iranian nation, including the right to life, security, and access to food, medicine, and other essential needs.”

 

Emphasizing the resilience of the great Iranian nation, which has shown remarkable resistance despite unilateral sanctions, coercive measures, and actions such as the naval blockade, Bahreini asserted that such a nation will never compromise on its dignity, independence, beliefs, and right to self-determination.

 

He continued: “Iran exercised maximum restraint to prevent the occurrence of two costly and destructive previous wars. Iran turned to diplomacy in good faith, demonstrated maximum flexibility in pursuit of a just agreement, and exhausted all peaceful avenues available within the framework of international law. However, the logic of coercion prevailed over the logic of rationality, and the language of threats overshadowed the language of dialogue—a dominance that has proven to be a failure and futile after one year.”

 

The Iranian Ambassador concluded: “The security of the Persian Gulf region is collective and indivisible, and Iran, recognizing this crucial fact, exerted all its efforts to bring an end to the war on all fronts. These efforts were driven by the goal that no more weapons should fall on schools or children, and that no mother—like the mother of Makan Nassiri, the 7-year-old child martyred during the attack on the Minab school—should have to wait in anticipation of finding the remaining pieces of her missing child’s body.”
