BRICS Preparing for Extraordinary Online Summit on Monday
WANA (Sep 05) – The Special Assistant to the President of Brazil for International Affairs, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of BRICS, announced that the leaders of the member states will hold an extraordinary virtual summit on Monday, September 7.
Celso Amorim stated that this extraordinary BRICS summit will be held via videoconference at the initiative of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Brazil’s CNN reported that BRICS leaders will discuss the challenges facing the emerging multipolar world order, as well as a joint response by the bloc to U.S. tariff measures and sanctions.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the virtual summit.
Brazilian sources also reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping has confirmed his participation in the meeting.
Previously, an in-person two-day BRICS summit was held in July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the participation of heads of state and foreign ministers of member countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At that summit, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi represented Iran. Condemning the Israeli regime’s attack on Iran, Araghchi said: “As the recognized voice of the Global South, BRICS must fulfill its role as a defender of international law and multilateralism, upholding the fundamental principles of the United Nations, including sovereign equality of nations, non-use of force, and peaceful settlement of disputes.”
BRICS currently consists of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Indonesia.
