Building Shelters for a Possible War with America
WANA (Feb 23) – After the end of the 12-day war, one of the first demands of Iranians has been the construction of shelters to remain safe from missile attacks in future wars.
Many complained about why the government had not planned for building shelters or why no warning sirens were heard during air attacks.
Experts and the government have provided responses in this regard, but these answers have not necessarily convinced the public.
Today, Abdolmotahhar Mohammadi Khani, spokesperson for the Tehran Municipality, said at a press conference with media representatives regarding the construction of shelters in Tehran: The city administration does not focus on the continuous military threats of the United States, but it is obliged to plan within the scope of its responsibilities.
In response to a question about the condition of shelters in the event of war, Mohammadi Khani stated that metro stations have been identified as having shelter capabilities. Buildings and parking facilities with suitable capacity have also been identified and introduced to the relevant authorities.
He added, “Insisting on building large shelters across the city is not necessarily a precise strategy, and there are various methods in passive defense to support people in crisis conditions.”
“Excessive media focus on constructing shelters may create public concern and impose incorrect decisions on city management. For more accurate decision-making, it is better to use the opinions of specialists in crisis management and passive defense, he said.”
