WANA (Aug 14) – The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that it has imposed sanctions on five senior Iranian officials.

 

According to an official statement released by the ministry, “Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions against five individuals under the Special Economic Measures (Iran) Regulations.”

 

The Canadian Foreign Ministry cited Iran’s actions regarding the Strait of Hormuz as a primary factor driving the implementation of these new sanctions.

 

The Strait of Hormuz is recognized as one of the world’s most critical maritime choke points, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

 

A significant portion of global energy trade passes through the waterway, making maritime security and stability in the region a matter of vital international concern.

 

The move follows a recent statement by Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who wrote in a post on the social media platform X: “Until all conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed.”
