CENTCOM Accuses Iran of Ceasefire Violation After Overnight Persian Gulf Clash
WANA (May 28) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) accused Iran of violating a ceasefire following overnight military developments in the Persian Gulf, despite Iranian officials insisting that Tehran’s actions were a direct response to what they described as American military aggression against Iranian territory.
In a statement, CENTCOM claimed that Iran launched a ballistic missile toward Kuwait at 10:17 p.m. Eastern Time on May 27. The US military also alleged that Iran had launched five one-way attack drones several hours earlier, which it said were intercepted by American forces.
Without referring to the early morning strike on Bandar Abbas and the tensions surrounding it, CENTCOM described Iran’s actions as a “blatant ceasefire violation” and claimed that US forces and their regional partners had acted with “restraint.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that US forces had targeted an area near Bandar Abbas Airport with aerial projectiles early Wednesday morning. According to the IRGC, Iran responded by striking the American air base from which the attack had originated at 4:50 a.m.
The IRGC said the retaliatory strike served as a “serious warning” to Washington, stressing that any act of aggression against Iran would not go unanswered. The statement added that any future attacks would be met with a stronger and more decisive response.
In another part of its statement, the IRGC addressed overnight naval developments in the Persian Gulf, saying several vessels attempted to enter the area illegally after disabling their navigation systems. Iranian naval forces reportedly issued repeated radio warnings, stopped two of the ships, and forced the remaining vessels to turn back.
The IRGC further stated that control and management of the Strait of Hormuz rests solely with its naval forces and warned that any disruption in the strategic waterway would trigger a firm response.
Iranian officials maintain that the recent military actions were carried out within the framework of self-defense and in response to repeated US attacks, warning that any further escalation would draw even harsher retaliation.
