CENTCOM Denies Damage to Military Assets in Gulf of Oman
WANA (Jun 04) – United States Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed on Wednesday local time that reports of an Iranian strike targeting a U.S. Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Oman are incorrect.
CENTCOM claimed that U.S. military personnel and assets at sea continue their naval and aerial operations and missions safely, without any disruption or hindrance.
This statement stands in contrast to an announcement by the Public Relations department of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.
Hours earlier, the Iranian Army stated that following what it described as aggressive acts, violations of Strait of Hormuz regulations, and hostile actions against Iranian commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman by the U.S. military, the Iranian Navy detected and targeted a “command and control center” located on a U.S. destroyer that was attempting to approach Iranian waters.
Disputes Over Kuwait Airport Terminal Damage
CENTCOM also addressed the recent incident at Kuwait International Airport, claiming that Iran targeted the civilian facility in an “intentional, calculated, and unjustifiable” attack, and that the damage to the passenger terminal resulted directly from this strike. The U.S. military command denied that the destruction was caused by an American interceptor missile.
This claim contradicts the narrative presented by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). IRGC Spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi previously stated that the IRGC Aerospace Force did not launch any strikes toward the civilian terminal.
According to General Mohebbi, internal IRGC investigations confirmed that the destruction of the passenger terminal was entirely due to an error by U.S. Patriot missile defense systems, which malfunctioned and crashed into the facility after failing to intercept incoming Iranian missiles.
