WANA (Jul 13) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it has completed a new wave of strikes against targets in Iran, claiming that dozens of military sites across multiple locations were hit.

 

According to the statement, the operation was carried out on July 12 using precision-guided munitions and targeted a range of military assets, including air defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, as well as Iran’s fast attack military boats.

 

CENTCOM claimed that the operation involved fighter jets, U.S. Navy vessels, loitering munitions, and, for the first time, unmanned explosive surface vessels.

 

The command also asserted that the strikes were intended to reduce Iran’s ability to carry out attacks against international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. It described the Strait as a vital global trade route and said U.S. forces remain fully prepared to ensure freedom of commercial navigation and to counter what it called Iran’s “aggressive actions, threats, and unlawful claims.”

 

The statement follows an earlier announcement by CENTCOM that additional strikes against targets in Iran had been launched. At the time, the command said the operations were ordered by the U.S. Commander-in-Chief and were aimed at further degrading Iran’s ability to attack civilian and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
