WANA (Jul 09) – China and Russia rejected what they described as the anti-Iran narrative contained in a document proposed by the United Arab Emirates during a meeting of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

 

According to the Chinese and Russian delegations, the document presented at the IMO Council is one-sided and places blame on Iran.

 

The UAE submitted the document on Thursday, calling for Iran to be condemned.

 

A day earlier, China’s Ambassador to Iran, Zhong Peiwu, told reporters that Iran, as a coastal state bordering the Strait of Hormuz, has legitimate rights that should be respected by the international community.

 

At the IMO meeting, China’s representative said Beijing could not support the UAE’s proposals because some of them go beyond the authority of the organization.

 

Russia’s representative was more explicit, saying the UAE’s document is deeply politically biased, places full responsibility for the crisis solely on Iran, and ignores its underlying causes.
