WANA (Jul 15) – Ali Mohammad Sabeghi, former Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beijing, China, has commented on recent regional developments, particularly in the context of what he referred to as “the Zionist regime’s attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Speaking on the matter, Sabeghi emphasized both official Chinese support and a notable wave of popular sympathy for Iran among Chinese citizens, stating, “The only real stronghold standing against this Western push toward China is the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

“In these recent incidents, beyond the Chinese government’s firm condemnation of the Zionist regime and their clear support for the Islamic Republic, there has also been a massive show of solidarity among the general Chinese public, especially on social media,” said Sabeghi.

“Millions have expressed happiness at Iran’s response and actions, and this support is not based on a shallow or recent understanding — it reflects a deep-rooted familiarity and respect that spans thousands of years.”

Sabeghi also framed the Iran-China relationship in strategic terms, arguing that from Beijing’s perspective, Iran plays a vital geopolitical role in shielding China from Western ambitions.

“The West’s ultimate goal is to confront and weaken China. Their aim is to either remove China as a competitor or bring it under control. In this region, the only real stronghold standing against this Western push toward China is the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he explained.

He added that Chinese officials are well aware of the risks:

“If, God forbid, Iran were to surrender to Western pressure or retreat from its positions, China would be the next target. That’s why the Chinese leadership emphasizes the importance of Iran remaining resilient and ideologically steadfast. As long as Iran’s stance does not directly harm China’s broader global interests, they are prepared to offer not just rhetorical but practical support as well.”
