Condemnation of the Attack on Nasser Hospital in Gaza and Criticism of Global Silence
WANA (Aug 26) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, strongly condemned Israel’s attack this morning on the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. He said the facility was the only functioning hospital in southern Gaza, and its bombing resulted in the killing of at least 20 patients and medical staff, along with five journalists.
Baghaei described the attack as a “war crime,” claiming it was part of what he called “a plan of genocide against Palestinians and an attempt to erase Palestine as a nation and identity.” He also criticized the inaction of international organizations and self-proclaimed human rights advocates, calling it “shameful.” He stressed that all governments have a legal and moral responsibility to stop the killing of civilians and hold those responsible accountable. Baghaei added that Israel’s political and military backers, especially the United States, should answer to the international community for their role.
Meanwhile, the head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations also commented on the Gaza war, calling Western countries’ approach to the crisis “hypocritical.” He argued that Western governments had long hidden behind the façade of freedom and human rights, but today their true policies have been exposed.
He further described Israel’s recent actions in Syria as “a threat to all countries in the region,” urging Islamic nations to move beyond passivity and make use of their extensive capacities in response to Israel’s conduct.
