WANA (Jun 24) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has criticized what he described as contradictory statements by U.S. officials regarding the memorandum of understanding that ended the imposed war, saying such remarks do nothing to reduce Iranian distrust toward Washington and instead revive memories of past American breaches of commitment.

 

In a post on X on Wednesday evening, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei responded to what he called conflicting comments and rhetoric from U.S. officials about the content of the post-war memorandum, arguing that the American ruling establishment has never demonstrated genuine sincerity in its dealings with the Iranian people.

 

Baghaei said that despite having valid reasons for skepticism toward the United States, Iran entered the diplomatic process in good faith and signed the memorandum aimed at ending the imposed war.

 

He added that Iranians understand that hostility and animosity from their adversaries do not disappear with the signing of a single agreement. Therefore, he said, every step forward will be taken with vigilance and with careful consideration of the experiences of the past five decades, particularly developments over the last eighteen months.

 

The spokesperson stressed that the contradictory remarks made by U.S. officials regarding the memorandum will not help ease the accumulated distrust of the Iranian people. Instead, he said, such statements merely serve as a reminder of Washington’s previous failures to honor its commitments.

 

Baghaei concluded by emphasizing the principle of “commitment for commitment,” stating that the successful implementation of the memorandum requires both sides to fulfill their respective obligations and refrain from interpretations that are clearly inconsistent with the explicit text of the agreement.
