Crown Aspirations Questioned Over Lack of Persian Fluency
WANA (Feb 15) – During monarchist gatherings held yesterday in Los Angeles in support of what participants described as actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, Noor Pahlavi, the eldest daughter of Reza Pahlavi, delivered a speech in English at the event.
Noor Pahlavi is the granddaughter of Iran’s last monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and Farah Pahlavi.
Her appearance and remarks drew widespread reactions, particularly from critics who questioned how someone presented by some monarchist supporters as a potential future crown heir does not speak Persian fluently.
In 2022, Farah Pahlavi stated in an interview that she was prepared to return to Iran and introduced her granddaughter as a future crown heir. However, under the Pahlavi-era constitution, succession to the throne was restricted to a male heir, making such a scenario legally impossible even within the framework of the former monarchy.
