Cyberattack Hits Verifone Israel Payment Systems
WANA (Mar 12) – The cyber group Handala has claimed responsibility for infiltrating the systems of Verifone in Israel, targeting the company’s point-of-sale (POS) payment infrastructure.
In a statement, the group said the cyber operation was carried out in response to Israeli airstrikes on the banking infrastructure of Iran. Verifone is considered one of the world’s largest providers of payment solutions and POS terminals.
According to the group, the operation—described as “complex”—caused widespread disruption to payment terminals and related systems. It also claimed that transaction records and financial data connected to the systems had been fully extracted.
Handala said the attack was intended as a “direct and decisive response” to what it described as Israeli attacks on banking infrastructure, warning that further hostile actions would be met with stronger retaliation.
The group also issued a warning to governments and companies cooperating with Verifone, particularly countries allied with Israel. It claimed it had the capability to disrupt multiple countries’ systems but said the current operation was intended as a serious warning.
The statement concluded with a warning that continued cooperation with the company could lead to “harsher and irreversible consequences,” adding that the group has the capability to conduct widespread cyber operations.
