Details of President Pezeshkian’s Visit to Oman
WANA (May 27) – Iran’s Ambassador to Oman, Mousa Farhang, stated that one of the most significant documents to be signed during President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Muscat is a long-term political cooperation framework agreement between Iran and Oman. “This document essentially outlines the future prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries,” he noted.
Farhang provided further details on the upcoming visit, saying that the Iranian president will travel to Muscat on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 27, 2025, heading a high-level political and economic delegation. According to the ambassador, this trip is in response to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to Tehran two years ago and follows the visit of the late President Raisi to Muscat.

The ambassador emphasized the political and economic significance of the visit, saying: “The timing of this trip is critical. Oman currently plays a key mediating role in Iran-U.S. negotiations, drawing increased attention to its foreign policy. Economically, bilateral relations have seen notable growth in recent years.”
He noted that around 25,000 Iranians currently live in Oman, and hundreds of Iranian companies are registered and active in the country. Based on the latest customs statistics, bilateral trade has surpassed $2.5 billion.
Political Cooperation Framework and Over a Dozen Agreements
Farhang said at least 14 cooperation documents will be signed during the visit in political, economic, and cultural sectors. Among them, he emphasized the long-term political cooperation framework agreement, which “charts the path for Iran-Oman relations in the coming years.” According to the current schedule, four to five key cooperation agreements and around 10 implementation MoUs will be signed.
During the two-day trip, President Pezeshkian will meet with Sultan Haitham and other high-ranking Omani officials, including the foreign minister. He will also meet with members of the Iranian community living in Oman.
A business forum will also be held in Muscat, attended by the president, Iranian and Omani businesspeople, and representatives from both countries’ chambers of commerce. The accompanying Iranian ministers are expected to hold sector-specific discussions with their Omani counterparts.

From $200 Million to $2.5 Billion in Trade
In response to a question about the implementation of previous agreements signed during the late President Raisi’s visit to Oman and Sultan Haitham’s visit to Tehran, particularly in the economic domain, Farhang acknowledged that “implementing such agreements often takes time.” He added that these agreements pave the way for future cooperation. “Over the past two years—one of which was marked by the martyrdom of President Raisi and the special conditions surrounding the election—some of the agreements have been put into action, while others are still pending implementation.”
He also noted: “About a decade ago, Iran-Oman trade volume stood at just $200 million, but over the past 10 years, it has grown to $2.5 billion. Despite intense regional competition and Iran’s longstanding economic ties with other countries in the area, we have witnessed a steady rise in trade with Oman. Transferring this level of commercial engagement to Oman naturally takes time.”
Describing the path of expanding Iran-Oman trade relations as “a clear and promising road,” Farhang stressed that the current political relationship between the two countries facilitates this growth and sets the stage for more ambitious steps.
Visit to Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
According to the ambassador, President Pezeshkian will be officially received by the Sultan upon his arrival in Muscat on Tuesday evening. High-level talks and a formal signing ceremony will follow.
As part of the visit, the president is also scheduled to tour the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a symbol of Iran-Oman friendship. Farhang noted that elements of Persian architecture were used in the mosque’s design, and it features a 5,000-square-meter handwoven Iranian carpet.
