Details of Today’s Call Between Araghchi and European Officials, Announced by Iran’s Foreign Ministry
WANA (Sep 17) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released details of today’s phone conversation between Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the UK, as well as the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement, the talks focused on nuclear issues and the process of lifting unjust sanctions against Iran.
Araghchi stressed the importance of preserving diplomatic channels and preventing further escalation, calling the move by the three European countries to reimpose previously lifted UN Security Council sanctions “without any legal or logical basis.” He underlined that Iran has responsibly engaged with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and drawn up a clear framework for implementing its safeguards commitments under the new circumstances — an initiative that, he said, must be recognized and valued by all parties.
He added that it is now up to the other side to use this opportunity to strengthen diplomacy, demonstrate genuine commitment to dialogue, and prevent an avoidable crisis.
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to reach a “fair and balanced” solution that secures mutual interests, while urging the three European countries to adopt an independent and responsible approach, free from the influence of actors who disregard diplomacy and international law.
The call concluded with an exchange of views and proposals on ways to continue the diplomatic process.
