WANA (Jun 10) – As some of their previous campaigns have failed, opposition groups against the Islamic Republic of Iran appear to be preparing new strategies aimed at inciting social unrest. A review of their recent activities reveals five main areas of focus:

1. Shift in Focus to Recreate 2022-style Protests:

After calls for a truck drivers’ strike yielded no tangible results, opposition efforts have shifted toward recreating protest atmospheres similar to those of 2022, which centered around women’s issues—particularly the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. Evidence suggests that some groups are deliberately trying to draw parallels to those events and reawaken similar sentiments.

2. Attempts to Politicize a Criminal Case:

One of the central efforts involved trying to turn the murder case of Elahe Hosseinnezhad into a broader social crisis. Elahe, a young woman, was killed during a mobile phone robbery. Some activists sought to leverage the emotional weight of the incident—especially through reactions by celebrities and public figures—to spark domestic instability. However, this campaign did not gain significant traction.

3. Controlled Situation Despite Provocations:

So far, with coordination between the police and relevant authorities, the situation remains under control, and no public protests or street demonstrations have been reported. Nevertheless, the effort to manufacture “hot-button” issues to stir public sentiment continues, and attempts to reintroduce tension into the public sphere have not ceased.

4. Exploiting Anti-Corruption Arrests:

In a new move, some groups are trying to politicize recent judiciary actions targeting economic corruption, particularly the arrest of high-profile individuals. For example, the arrest of the son of Ayatollah Sedighi (the Friday Prayer Imam of Tehran) on charges of financial misconduct has become a focal point in attempts to cast the entire political establishment in a negative light.

5. Projections of Continued Destabilization Campaigns:

Assessments suggest that such unrest-generating projects will continue in the coming months. These campaigns aim to create psychological and social pressure, while simultaneously undermining Iran’s position in ongoing international negotiations. Some estimates indicate that such efforts may persist for up to three more months.
