Diplomacy Is the Priority, but All Options Remain on the Table
WANA (Jan 27) – Iran’s government spokesperson has emphasized that diplomacy remains the central pillar of the country’s approach to current challenges, stating that amid increasingly confrontational postures, the government seeks to resolve issues through dialogue and international engagement, in line with national interests and regional stability. She stressed, however, that alternative options have not been ruled out.
Speaking at the beginning of a press conference with media representatives, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani referred to the recent loss of lives and described the prevailing regional atmosphere, as well as war rhetoric echoed by some foreign media outlets, as a source of pressure on people’s daily lives. She noted that the government had long been aware that the country is facing a form of “hybrid and multi-layered warfare,” but under such circumstances, it has chosen to prioritize diplomacy as a means of crisis management.
Mohajerani underscored that reliance on diplomacy does not imply ignoring other instruments of power. She said the Iranian government and governing institutions remain fully prepared in terms of defense and military readiness, adding that all options are being considered.
According to her, Iran intends to navigate the current situation while preserving national dignity and maintaining unified command.
Responding to a question about claims that Iran had sent a message to the United States, the spokesperson stated that the government’s official position is to maintain strong defensive preparedness while favoring a diplomatic approach. She added that any details regarding the exchange of messages fall under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Compensatory Support for Internet-Based Businesses
Mohajerani also announced the introduction of compensatory support measures for internet-based businesses affected by recent internet disruptions. She said the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology has designed a comprehensive package consisting of eight support programs, some of which directly target digital economy businesses and knowledge-based companies.
According to the spokesperson, these measures include compensation for losses caused by internet shutdowns, provision of working capital, support for improving product quality and expanding production capacity, assistance for exports and access to foreign markets, backing of export consortia, support for the development of new strategic products, and assistance for knowledge-based companies that have not previously benefited—directly or indirectly—from the Innovation and Prosperity Fund.
She concluded by noting that a precise assessment of damages will be announced after evaluation by the relevant authorities, in order to ensure transparent and accurate communication with the public.
