WANA (Dec 16) – Iran’s Judiciary spokesperson has announced the arrest of a dual national individual accused of espionage in Alborz Province, describing the case as part of ongoing judicial action against alleged intelligence activities linked to Israel.

 

According to judicial officials, the suspect, who obtained Swedish citizenship in 2020, was allegedly recruited by Israeli intelligence services in 2023. Based on official reports and statements attributed to the accused, the individual traveled to six European capitals where he reportedly received espionage-related training and maintained contact with intelligence operatives.

 

Authorities stated that the suspect made several trips to the occupied territories and entered Iran approximately one month before the outbreak of the recent so-called “12-day war.” He was reportedly residing in a villa on the outskirts of Karaj at the time of his arrest.

Judicial and security officials said that advanced electronic and intelligence-gathering equipment was discovered at the suspect’s place of residence and seized during the conflict. The accused has reportedly confessed to spying activities on behalf of Israel.

 

Hossein Fazeli Harikandi, Chief Justice of Alborz Province, confirmed that the case is being reviewed by Branch Two of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Karaj and noted that a verdict is expected to be issued in the near future.

 

Officials further stated that the suspect, who had been living in a European country, allegedly held multiple meetings with Mossad agents and received training both in several European capitals and in the occupied territories. He was arrested during the fourth day of the 12-day conflict, and additional sophisticated surveillance and intelligence equipment was reportedly found both at the time of his detention and inside the villa where he was staying.

 

The case is being prosecuted under Article 6 of Iran’s law on countering hostile actions by the Israeli regime against the country’s peace and security. Judicial authorities emphasized that the proceedings reflect a firm stance against alleged espionage activities, regardless of the suspect’s nationality or place of residence.
