WANA (Apr 14) – The aircraft carrying Iran’s negotiation team was forced to make an emergency landing in Mashhad after receiving security threats during its return flight from Islamabad.

According to reports, Mohammad Marandi, a member of the Iranian delegation, told Al Mayadeen that the plane changed its route after threats were made indicating it could be targeted. The aircraft subsequently landed in Mashhad.

He added that following the incident, members of the delegation continued their journey to Tehran by train and car.

These developments come just two days after the start of the Islamabad talks, when Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator, suggested in an interview with Fox News that Iranian negotiators should be assassinated if they refused to reach an agreement with the United States.

At the same time, The Washington Post published an opinion piece raising a similar scenario, further intensifying concerns over the safety of diplomatic delegations.
