Emergency UN Security Council Meeting on Israeli Attacks on Iran Begins
WANA (Jun 14) – An emergency session of the United Nations Security Council regarding the Israeli regime’s attacks on Iran began on Friday night.
Earlier today, the Israeli regime violated Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty by launching attacks on several locations, including residential areas in Tehran and other cities. The strikes killed a number of Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists who were instrumental in defending the country’s scientific and strategic capabilities, as well as other innocent civilians.
At the start of the session, the UN Deputy Secretary-General stated that the Israeli regime had attacked civilian areas in Iran, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths.
Referring to Israel’s justification for the assault, he said: “According to reports from the Israeli armed forces, more than 200 fighter jets launched 340 projectiles at a minimum of 100 targets. The impact of these attacks is already being felt across the region. Regional countries have closed their airspace and declared emergency conditions. Many regional leaders have condemned the attack, describing it as a dangerous escalation toward full-scale war.”
The Deputy Secretary-General emphasized: “According to Iranian sources, numerous commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians have been killed. The United Nations condemns any military aggression against another sovereign state. In these sensitive circumstances, we call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint.”
He added: “Of particular concern is Israel’s strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. These sites have sustained damage.”
The UN official also referred to the halted Iran–U.S. negotiations, which former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously described as a ‘trap’ for Iran. He called for the resumption of diplomatic talks between the two sides.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in response to calls urging Iran to show restraint, stated: “We are not accepting any requests for restraint at this time.”
