End-of-War Talks Contingent on U.S. Ceasefire Compliance in Lebanon
WANA (Apr 09) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated today that any progress toward a permanent end to the war depends entirely on the United States fulfilling its ceasefire commitments across all fronts, with a specific emphasis on the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.
Condemnation of Aggression and Regional Solidarity
In a briefing with reporters, Baghaei strongly condemned recent Israeli actions in Lebanon, extending the deep condolences of the Iranian government and people to the families of the martyrs and the Lebanese nation. He praised the “legendary resistance” of the Lebanese people against the “brutality and expansionism of the Zionist regime.”
The spokesperson also expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Lebanese people during the recent military aggression against Iran by the U.S. and Israel, stating: “Today, the solidarity and empathy between the peoples of Iran and Lebanon is stronger than at any other time in history.”
Lebanon as an Integral Part of the Ceasefire
Addressing the connection between the ceasefire and the situation in Lebanon, Baghaei clarified that the cessation of war in Lebanon is an “inseparable part” of the ceasefire agreement proposed by Pakistan.
“As the Prime Minister of Pakistan explicitly stated, the United States is committed to stopping the war on all fronts, including Lebanon,” Baghaei said. He warned that any action or stance contrary to this commitment would be regarded as a breach of faith by the United States.
Status of Islamabad Peace Talks
When questioned about the location and timing of negotiations with the U.S. to fully conclude the war, the spokesperson confirmed that the Pakistani government has invited both parties to Islamabad.
While the proposal is currently under review and planning, Baghaei emphasized: “Undoubtedly, the commencement of any talks is contingent upon ensuring that the United States fulfills its obligations regarding the ceasefire on all fronts.”
Regarding the composition of the Iranian delegation for the potential Islamabad summit, Baghaei noted that details would be released only once the travel plans are finalized.
