WANA (Jun 25) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the approval of a draft bill to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a reflection of the Iranian people’s will and a firm response to illegal actions against the country.

Esmaeil Baghaei, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, referred to the parliamentary approval of the bill on halting cooperation with the IAEA, stating: “This initiative reflects the will of the Iranian nation and serves as a clear response to the unlawful attacks against our country.”

He added, “Our nuclear facilities and scientists must be protected and safeguarded.”

Baghaei stressed that “unfortunately, the IAEA’s stance regarding these attacks has not been constructive or responsible so far.”

He further emphasized: “It is the IAEA that must take steps to rebuild trust with us, rather than remaining silent and turning a blind eye to the attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.”

These statements came after the Iranian Parliament, in its open session today, passed a bill suspending the Islamic Republic’s cooperation with the IAEA.

Alireza Salimi, a member of the Parliament’s presiding board, said: “During this morning’s session, both the general outlines and details of the bill to suspend cooperation with the IAEA were approved.”

He added that, according to the bill, IAEA inspectors are not allowed to enter the country for inspections unless the safety of Iran’s nuclear facilities and its peaceful nuclear activities is guaranteed—an assurance that must also receive approval from the Supreme National Security Council.

Salimi also noted that the bill includes penalties for individuals who permit IAEA inspectors to enter the country. The legislation applies to both safeguards-related and beyond-safeguards cooperation.
