Ending Gaza Genocide Is UN’s Toughest Test
WANA (Sep 22) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on social media platform X that halting the ongoing genocide in Gaza represents the most crucial test of the United Nations’ credibility and effectiveness.
“We have arrived in New York for the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly,” Baghaei wrote, referring to the gathering’s theme, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
He noted that the milestone comes at a time when the UN’s founding principles face “unprecedented threats from militant unilateralism, coercion, contempt for international law, and large-scale impunity for egregious violations of human rights and humanitarian law.”
“The ongoing genocide in Gaza is the toughest test yet of the UN’s institutional integrity and normative credibility,” he stressed. “If the United Nations is to remain relevant, its members must act with urgency and resolve to end this atrocity and bring those responsible to justice.”
Iran’s President will travel to New York on Tuesday after attending the opening ceremony of the new school year in Tehran, senior political adviser Mahdi Sanai announced on the social media platform X.
According to Sanai, the President is scheduled to deliver a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday morning local time (Wednesday evening Tehran time).
The 80th session of the UN General Assembly, with the participation of 193 member states, will open on Tuesday, September 22, at UN Headquarters in New York. This gathering provides an opportunity for heads of state and senior officials to present their views and seek common approaches toward achieving their goals and advancing their policies and programs.
