WANA (Jul 21) – Iraqi media reported on Tuesday that missile and drone strikes targeted U.S. positions near Erbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, prompting the temporary suspension of flights at the airport.

 

According to local sources, multiple explosions were heard across Erbil as a U.S. military facility adjacent to the airport came under attack. Reports also indicated that Patriot air defense systems were activated to intercept incoming projectiles, while plumes of smoke were seen rising from the vicinity of the base.

 

Ahmed Hoshyar, director of Erbil International Airport, announced that all inbound and outbound flights had been temporarily suspended due to the deteriorating security situation. He said flight operations would resume once conditions stabilize.

Meanwhile, several news outlets reported that facilities belonging to Kurdish separatist groups in Erbil were also struck in the attacks. No official information has yet been released regarding possible casualties or the extent of the damage.

 

At the same time, satellite images circulating in the media appear to show that a U.S. ground support station and a maintenance facility associated with a reconnaissance aerostat at Erbil Airport were hit. The reports claim the site was struck with precision, although neither U.S. nor Iraqi officials have officially confirmed these claims.
