WANA (Jan 30) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi that the Middle East cannot withstand further instability and that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to Iran’s nuclear issue.

The meeting took place on Friday in Ankara during Araghchi’s official visit to Turkey, which aims to hold consultations with senior Turkish officials. According to official statements, the two sides exchanged views on the strong state of Iran–Turkey relations across various fields and reaffirmed their mutual determination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

During the talks, Iran’s foreign minister expressed appreciation for Turkey’s stance in support of Iran’s national sovereignty and its opposition to foreign interference. He stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among regional and Islamic countries to confront ongoing security crises and destabilizing challenges in the Middle East, pointing to the need for greater regional solidarity in the face of escalating conflicts.

Araghchi also addressed recent domestic developments in Iran, stating that some peaceful gatherings were pushed into violence following the involvement of violent and extremist elements. He noted that a number of law enforcement personnel and civilians were killed during these incidents. He emphasized the need for regional countries to remain vigilant toward what he described as one-sided and misleading narratives promoted by Western and Israeli media regarding Iran’s internal affairs.

Reiterating Tehran’s long-standing position that diplomacy is the preferred path to safeguarding national interests and preventing further regional escalation, Araghchi welcomed Turkey’s responsible approach toward Iran’s nuclear issue. He underlined that Iran has never turned away from dialogue, provided that negotiations are based on mutual respect and recognition of Iran’s legitimate interests and concerns.

For his part, President Erdogan conveyed his greetings to Iran’s Supreme Leader and President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing confidence that the Iranian government and people, through unity and national cohesion, will be able to overcome existing challenges. Referring to Turkey’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region, Erdogan stressed the urgency of returning to dialogue and stated that Ankara is ready to play a facilitating role if necessary.

Erdogan concluded by emphasizing that Iran’s nuclear issue can only be resolved through diplomacy and warned that any further escalation would have consequences extending beyond national borders.
