Eslami Visits Construction Progress at Bushehr Nuclear Units 2 and 3
WANA (Feb 14) – The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran visited the construction site of the second and third units of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant to review progress on the project.
Mohammad Eslami, Iran’s Vice President and head of the Atomic Energy Organization, inspected the implementation phases of the strategic project during a one-day visit to Bushehr Province.
Speaking to reporters, Eslami said the construction of the second and third units at the Bushehr nuclear facility is progressing steadily and in line with the scheduled timetable, crediting domestic specialists, the main contractor, and partner companies for ongoing work.
He added that design, engineering, and equipment manufacturing in workshops are taking place simultaneously with construction activities at the site, noting that the project has reached an overall physical completion rate of 18 percent.
Eslami emphasized Iran’s policy of maximizing domestic capabilities, stating that equipment that can be produced inside the country is being prioritized for use in the two units, leading to broad participation by Iranian companies and institutions in supplying project needs.
He further said that around 5,600 workers employed by Iranian contractors are currently active at the project site. According to the revised schedule, the units are expected to be commissioned in stages during the first year following the completion of Iran’s Seventh Development Plan.
Eslami further said about cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency: “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s cooperation with the Agency is established within the framework of the safeguards, and compliance with the law of the Islamic Consultative Assembly regarding sites that have been subjected to military attacks will be our criterion for action.”
